Progressive groups launched a protest action on International Women's Day to raise concerns on the effects of oil price hikes on basic commodities that has affected the Davao poor.
The illegally imported red onions with estimated value of P57 million in pesos had been intercepted at the Mindanao Container Terminal sub-port in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental.

The federation’s reaction came after Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III announced that the government has extended P23.2 billion in subsidies to PCIC over the last 20 years.
According to the Customs in Northern Mindanao in a Facebook post, the onions were burned and buried in a pit inside the destruction facility.
