Davao’s Catholic schools gear up for environment summit

DAVAO CITY — “Puno ng Buhay sa Ilog na Buhay.” The Davao Association of Colleges and Schools (DACS) prepares and chooses that theme for the second environment summit on July 27-28, 2007.

The first gathering was held successfully last year with the support of the various colleges and universities in Davao, Digos, Tagum and Mati (DADITAMA) regions.

Court asked to reconsider decision on Davao’s aerial spraying ban

DAVAO CITY — Two motions asking the court to reconsider its decision that granted the Pilipino Banana Growers and Exporters Association its appeal for an issuance of a writ of Preliminary Injunction that stopped the implementation of the ordinance banning aerial spraying have been separately filed.

The Department of Trade and Industry seems to be suggesting that it?s about time the popular clich? ?an apple a day keeps the doctors away? be changed to ?a banana a day keeps the doctors away.? Nelly Esperanza, DTI Davao del Norte chief for consumer welfare and trade regulation, the department will be launching on July 17 banana chips as a health food.

Philippines confident in solving revenue shortfalls

MANILA — The administration of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is “confident that it will succeed” in addressing the revenue-generation shortfall recorded by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) and the Bureau of Customs (BOC) for the first half of this year.
