Environmentalists celebrate with Lumad in Tipolog

Environmentalists are yet again scaling up Mt. Tipolog, known as the country?s lost volcano found in Barangay Tawan-Tawan, Baguio District, as their way of celebrating the generosity of the mountain to the residents of the area especially to the lumad (indigenous peoples).

This is in time for the celebration of October as the Indigenous People?s Month.

Although blessed with abundant and clean water, Davao's residents should be prepared for the possibility that their city will suffer from inadequate supply, knowing how the watersheds of the city are slowly being encroached into by plantations that use environmentally hazardous chemicals.

Davao’s Catholic schools gear up for environment summit

DAVAO CITY — “Puno ng Buhay sa Ilog na Buhay.” The Davao Association of Colleges and Schools (DACS) prepares and chooses that theme for the second environment summit on July 27-28, 2007.

The first gathering was held successfully last year with the support of the various colleges and universities in Davao, Digos, Tagum and Mati (DADITAMA) regions.

Braga wants e-jeepneys in Davao

In a privilege speech, Councilor Pilar Braga touted the 12-seater electric vehicle "as the next Philippine transport icon." The e-jeepneys, she said, "are aimed to demonstrate that there are climate-friendly alternatives to the current polluting modes of public transportation in the Philippines. Aside from its non-pollutive effect, it is also very economical and very good for the owners and drivers as it will increase their income compared to the use of diesel/gas."
