AFP Cites Minors in Propaganda Offensive vs NPA


The Philippine military seems to be on the propaganda offensive again against the New People’s Army, this time accusing the communist movement of recruiting minors and children. In this news report, the military claims that a 12-year-old member of the NPA was killed in an encounter in New Bataan, Compostela Valley on Saturday. In two earlier press releases, the military said it captured seven NPA guerrillas — all allegedly minors — in Agusan del Sur and Bukidnon. Greenpeace Hits DA for Flip-Flop on GMO Corn

The environment group Greenpeace today lambasted the Department of Agriculture for allegedly flip-flopping on an earlier order revoking the authorization for the use of a genetically modified corn called MON863, which the group has found to be toxic. Mindanao is the country’s largest corn producer where many of these GMOs have been cultivated.

WB OKs $83.75-M loan for agri devt in Mindanao

DAVAO CITY — The World Bank on Thursday said it has approved a $83.752-million loan sought by the Philippine government, to finance the second phase of a four-part program aimed at improving food security in Mindanao.

In a statement released to the media, the international lender said its board of directors had approved Phase 2 of the Mindanao Rural Development Project, which will benefit 225 municipalities in the 27 provinces of Mindanao.
