TAGO, Surigao del Sur — Bishop Jose de Dios Pueblos of Butuan City hosted the 3-day CARAGA Conference for Peace and Development (CCPD) Strategic Planning-Workshop at the Bishop?s Home in Ampayon, Butuan City last March 07, 2007. This was participated in by Colonel Jose B Vizcarra (JSC) PA, 401st Infantry Brigade Commander, Colonel Dante, 402nd Infantry Brigade Commander and LTC Joel N Madarang (GSC) PA, the Commanding Officer of 36th Infantry Battalion, as well as PNP and other battalion commanders of the 4ID in CARAGA.

Mindanao Is a Great Source of Wushu Talents

Davao City (14 March) — Noted martial arts instructor in the Davao region Ricardo Tacay has never lost faith in the country’s medal hopefuls wresting its first Olympic gold medal through Wushu.

And Mindanao is ready to contribute to the continuing search for the best talents that the country can have not only in the fast approaching 2008 Beijing Olympics but also for future international events.

A Bloody Red Carpet for UN Rapporteur

COTABATO CITY — What a bloody red carpet our government had given to Professor Philip Alston! Not only was the United Nations special rapporteur on extrajudicial killings criticized by the head of the Senate Committee on Justice, Senator Juan Ponce Enrile, for his comment on the dismal human-rights situation in the Philippines — a trail of blood followed Alston in his visit to the country.

A Hope for Mindanao’s Moros

Zaynab Ampatuan, 27, hardly looks like one who has experienced being driven from home by bombs and bullets courtesy of the military. But she has ? and more than twice. Her experiences with the oppression of Muslims in the Philippines led her to become an advocate for the Moro cause.

MANILA — Petite and slim Zaynab Ampatuan, 27, deputy secretary-general and one of the party-list nominees of the Suara Bangsamoro (Voice of the Moro People) Party for this year?s elections, hardly looks like one who has experienced being driven from home by bombs and bullets courtesy of the military. But she has ? and more than twice.

In 2000, then President Joseph Estrada declared ?all-out war? against the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). The ?all-out war? took a heavy toll mostly on civilians in Mindanao. Military offensives in areas claimed by authorities as MILF strongholds have sporadically taken place under the Arroyo regime, even as the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) is engaged in peace negotiations with the group.
