Philippines: Communists Nab Army Sergeant in Davao Oriental

DAVAO CITY – The military on Wednesday confirmed the abduction of an Army sergeant on April 13 in sitio Hulid, Barangay Aragon, Cateel town in Davao Oriental.

Col. Benito de Leon, spokesman of the 10th Infantry Division, identified the abducted soldier as Staff Sergeant Albert Baludoya, detachment commander of the 72nd Infantry Batallion based in the area.

AFP DENOUNCES MALIK?S ACTIONS, BITAN-AG COMPLEX OVERRUN BY AFP TROOPS

HEADQUARTERS WESTERN MINDANAO COMMAND. LTGEN EUGENIO V CEDO AFP, the commander of the Western Mindanao Command denounces the series of attacks by renegade MNLF leader Habier Ustadz Malik and his group launched against military troops in Panamao, Sulu including the Municipal building of Panamao which killed 1 civilian and wounding another. The lawless group began their attack in the evening of April 13, Friday and sustaining their attack against the Marine Company in Luuk and the SOCOM in Talipao in the morning of April 14.

Philippines Determined to Stop Human Rights Violations

MANILA — Malacanang assured today that more than anyone else, the Philippine government is determined to put an end to the issue of political violence and human rights violations in the country.

Press Secretary and concurrent Presidential Spokesperson Ignacio R. Bunye said the government is “working in an open and transparent way” and with the support of international partners to put an end to human rights violations.

Renewed Fighting in Philippines Will Not Affect elections — Gov’t

MANILA — Malacanang assured the public today that the ongoing conflict between government troops and a breakaway group of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) in Sulu would definitely not affect the forthcoming elections in the province.

Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said in his regular weekly press briefing in Malacanang the government is doing its best to ensure that the renewed fighting in Panamao town between the military and the group of MNLF commander Uztads Habier Malik will not affect other municipalities in Sulu.
