Military Launches ‘Combat Journalism’ in Northern Mindanao

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Major General Jose T Barbieto AFP, Commanding General of the 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division, Philippine Army gave the green light for the Division Public Affairs Office/CMO Company led by Major Samuel C Sagun (INF) PA and ABS-CBN Northern Mindanao TV Patrol Team of Alden Bacal (anchor) and Elmer Octobre (cameraman) to join a combat patrol (night & day) led by 1Lt Genesis Gabrido (INF) PA and 2Lt Jhordane Sumabong (INF) PA of Bravo Company, 8th Infantry (Dependable) Battalion, Philippine Army under LTC Eric C Vinoya (INF) PA in Salay, Misamis Oriental from 10 to 11 March 2007.

Bishop Hosts Caraga Conference for Peace and Development

TAGO, Surigao del Sur — Bishop Jose de Dios Pueblos of Butuan City hosted the 3-day CARAGA Conference for Peace and Development (CCPD) Strategic Planning-Workshop at the Bishop?s Home in Ampayon, Butuan City last March 07, 2007. This was participated in by Colonel Jose B Vizcarra (JSC) PA, 401st Infantry Brigade Commander, Colonel Dante, 402nd Infantry Brigade Commander and LTC Joel N Madarang (GSC) PA, the Commanding Officer of 36th Infantry Battalion, as well as PNP and other battalion commanders of the 4ID in CARAGA.

Molotov Bomb Attack on Cagayan de Oro Radio Station, ‘Alarming Twist in Targeted Violence’

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) is shocked by the latest violent attack on the media in the Philippines, which involved a Molotov bomb strike on a radio station in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

According to IFJ affiliate, the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP), at around 2am on March 13 a lone motorcycle rider lobbed a Molotov bomb (also known as a petrol bomb) at dxCC radio station in Cagayan de Oro City, before speeding off.

Arroyo May Face International Sanctions Due to Continuing Political Killings

MANILA — The umbrella group Bagong Alyansang Makabayan warned that the Arroyo government may face international sanctions in the face of its inability to decisively stop to the extrajudicial killings in the country. The warning came in the wake of the recently concluded United States Congressional hearings on the killings in the Philippines.
