Lawyer Beverly Musni, convenor of Initiatives for Peace in Mindanao (InPeace) told Davao Today said she joins the public in condemning the bombing as it “intends to sow fear by attacking civilians.” She also “challenged authorities to answer questions by the public, to leave no stone unturned to find the truth and justice for the victims.”
A month after the New People’s Army captured five soldiers in Paquibato District, the National Democratic Front of the Philippines Southern Mindanao said its “Revolutionary Court “ is reviewing the cases of the captives “as thoroughly as possible” so that the latter’s “direct culpability “ or “innocence “ is “meticulously established.”
In a text message to Davao Today, outgoing DCPO Chief Ronald dela Rosa said the city is placed in double alert, with checkpoints and security personal around the city on double time for heightened intelligence monitoring.
Davao has now 130 surveillance cameras installed around the city as part of the authorities’ measures to monitor safety, disaster and crime.
Students marched through universities to protest state budget cuts and high cost of education. Workers held a rally in a strike camp to demand job security. Farmers held a picket at a military headquarters to decry militarization and abuses. The rallies culminated with a burning of Pres. Aquino’s effigy in a gathering at the city’s Rizal Park in the afternoon.

Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said during the IACAT advocacy campaign launch, he would confront human trafficking with the same intensity as that of drug trafficking cases. “In my book, I have placed illegal recruiters on the level of drug traffickers. It has the same effect to society.”
