The workers and their families held a silent picket in front of the Panabo City Council to solicit support. They were retrenched after DITFI-Dole Stanfilco arbitrarily announced closure on Oct. 8. But no help came from any of the councilors, prompting the workers to go back to the picket line at the entrance of the container yard. There, soldiers confronted them.

Foremost in your mind, when you’re in an evacuation center, is how to survive, where to look for food, or to keep yourself from being harassed, or get hit by a bomb.”

The KMP said what it proposes will be a better law than the existing CARP, which failed to end the sufferings of farmers after two decades. The new bill will ensure that farmers will no longer lose control of their land. To do that, the proposed bill wll do away with provisions giving the farmers the option to sell their land.

Duterte said teenagers today are different from those in the past and, at 15, he believed a boy already has discernment. He also thought the Juvenile Justice Law, which says children below 15 cannot be held criminally liable, is open to abuse — a lot of criminals could get away with crime because of this, he said. He called the law myopic and impractical.

This city once again made history when a graduate from John Paul II College of Davao topped this years Geodetic Engineer Licensure Examination given by the Board of Geodetic Engineering in Manila last September. Alfredo Cahiles Gaborne Jr., from Calinan, said he did not expect to get the highest rating and that all he wanted was to be in the top 20 list.
