Philippines: Journalist released after 10 hours in detention

MANILA — Journalist Jofelle Tesorio, who was ordered jailed by a local judge yesterday morning, was released after almost ten hours in detention.

Tesorio was brought to a women’s detention facility in Camp Karingal in Quezon City shortly after posting a P20,000 bail bond about 9 a.m. Thursday morning.

Court stops Davao law that bans aerial spraying

The Regional Trial Court suspended for three months the city ordinance that is supposed to take effect tomorrow, June 23. The Davao City residents who claimed to have been affected by the chemicals sprayed from the air by banana companies denounced the decision. ?Our agony will be prolonged,? said one of them.
