Relief of Davao’s Comelec director urged

Senate minority leader Aquilino Pimentel Jr. today called for the relief of the director for Southern Mindanao of the Commission on Elections following reports that the official was involved in the padding and shaving of votes in Davao City and Davao del Sur.

Pimentel, whose son Aquilino III had earlier complained that his votes in the senatorial race in Davao City had been shaved by as many as 85,000 votes, said Comelec regional director Remlane Tambuang was involved in what he called “dagdag-bawas operation” in Davao City and Davao del Sur.

No Filipinos hurt in Turkey blast

MANILA ? Charg? d’Affaires, a.i. (CDA) Alfonso A. Ver of the Philippine Embassy in Ankara, Turkey reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that no Filipinos have been reported hurt after an explosion rocked the district of Ulus in Ankara at around 6:45 p.m. (11:45 p.m., Manila time) on 22 May 2007.

DENR alarmed over proliferation of dangerous starfish in Davao

DAVAO CITY — Recent data from various diver organizations citing the increase in number of the poisonous ?crown-of-thorns? or known as ?dap-ag? have alarmed the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

Crown-of-thorns is a red starfish with thorn-like spines sprouting all over its body. Its long spines are capable of pricking and stinging, inflicting great pain that can last for hours, as well as nausea and vomiting if accidentally touched or stepped.

Journalists won’t drop class suit vs husband of Philippines president

MANILA — The journalists who filed a class-action suit against First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo said today that they will pursue the case against the president’s husband despite his earlier move to drop the libel cases he had filed against 46 Filipino journalists.
