‘Surface Jimmy Rosios!’

Sep. 02, 2007

On this day of the desaparecidos, Anakpawis SOCSKSARGEN calls for the immediate surfacing of abducted labor leader Jaime Jimmy Rosios.

Rosios, a Board Member of Yellow Bus Lines Employees Union, and a vocal critic of the YBL managements unfair labor practices, was abducted by armed men aboard a Tamaraw FX, just outside the Yellow Bus garage in Koronadal City, South Cotabato last August 11, 2007.

The abduction of Mr. Rosios exemplifies the wicked drive by the Arroyo government and the military to silence everybody, using the Human Security Act as a smokescreen, says Felix Fernandez, Anakpawis-SOCSKSARGEN regional coordinator.

With a nationwide trend of harassment, abduction and assassination of union leaders, mediamen and leaders of militant organizations, we have every reason to suspect that the military has a direct hand in this. More so, it has similar circumstances with that of the abduction of Bayan Muna South Cotabato coordinator Gilbert Cardio, Fernandez continues.

Fernandez also stressed that Rosios abduction was the second in two months in Koronadal City.

Apparently, the Arroyo government and the military want to send a message to the workers and the people that whoever stands to assert their constitutional rights shall suffer Jimmys and all the desaparecidos fate. On the contrary, this spawns hatred among the people and further legitimizes the widespread call for Mrs. Arroyos immediate ouster, Fernandez concludes.#
