DAVAO CITY— After the economic summit here in June this year, the Duterte administration is pursuing the social development summit to talk about the plans of various sectors on the social development direction in the country.

Deputy Cabinet Secretary Peter Tiu Laviña said that the summit will be the second segment of consultations after the economic business summit.

“It took some time to prepare because basically most of the social team were late being appointed,” he said. The social development summit is slated on August 17-18 at SMX Convention, SM Lanang.

The summit will discuss updates and status of the social development plans of various agencies. There will also be workshops and consultations for the participants.

Laviña said the output of the summit will be submitted to President Rodrigo Duterte.

The summit will carry five main thematic arrangements: education, housing, health, livelihood and the cross-cutting climate change adaptation and resiliency.

As of now, he said that they cannot invite so many participants, “but we make sure that all the sectors that will be affected in social development will be there. “

The invited participants were based on the sectoral listing of the National Anti-Poverty Commission(NAPC) which identified 14 sectors including the youth, senior citizen, disabled, women, workers, agriculture sector, fisher folk, indigenous peoples and victims of disasters.

Cabinet members both from economic team and social development sector were also invited.

“We will try to match both economic and social development in one framework for the new National Development and Security framework being prepared for this new administration,” said Laviña.

He said that they one of the objectives is to put on line both the economic and social development plans “in the forthcoming 2017-2022, five-year development plan.”

“What is good in this new administration is that, the five-year development plan prepared by National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) will commence upon the assumption of the new administration,” he said.

He said that they are taking emphasis on all those consultative, participatory system in place so that the program and plans that will be implemented by the Duterte administration “is the peoples actual need.”(davaotoday.com)
