ARMM’s ‘Darul Ifta’ condemns Abu Sayyaf for beheading Tausug soldier in Sulu

DAVAO CITY, Philippines— Inhuman and un-Islamic was how the Regional Darul Ifta in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (RDI-ARMM) described the act of the Abu Sayyaf Group as it condemned the beheading of Anni Siraji, a Tausug soldier who is a native of Sulu.

“This shows their brutality and disregard and disrespect to the teachings of the Holy Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw). Life is very sacred in Islam,” it said in a statement on Monday.

On Sunday, the decapitated body of Sirjai was recovered by the government troops in Sulu. Authorities said that he was abducted by the Abu Sayyaf Group on Thursday, April 20.

A native of Sulu, Siraji joined the Armed Forces of the Philippines following the signing by the government and the MNLF of the 1996 peace agreement.

His body found two-and-a-half kilometers from the place where he was abducted in the town of Patikul on April 20, according to Brig. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, commander of Joint Task Force Sulu.

Meanwhile, ARMM’s Darul Ifta, the Islamic advisory council in the region, has called on the people of Sulu to “work together” with the government.

“We call upon our peace-loving people of Sulu and the leadership to work together to confront this vicious-cycle of violence,” it said. “We extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to the bereaved family. And we pray to Allah to let him enter Jannah.” (davaotoday.com)
