DAVAO CITY—The Employees’ Compensation Commission (ECC) and the Occupational Safety and Health Center will extend financial assistance to the families of the casualties during the Davao blast on the night of September 2, Friday.

This was disclosed by Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Bello who said that the two agencies would give P10,000 each to the family of the dead victims, and P5,000 each to the injured.

He hoped the money,to be distributed today, September 5, “will help diminish the sense of loss” for the people of Davao and of Mindanao.

One of the victims of the explosion on Friday was Kristia Gaile Bisnon, a private duty nurse at Davao Doctors Hospital, and daughter of Arlene Bisnon, Provincial Director of DOLE Sultan Kudarat.

Aside from sending flowers to the family to express sympathies and prayers, he said he would personally extend condolences to the families and to the DOLE employee.

“This is only a small help but hopefully it can also assuage the feelings of our fellow Davaoenoes, ug fellow Mindanaoans,” he said.

Bello added that despite the bombing incident, he believes it is still safe in the city.

The deadly blast that took place at the Roxas night market here has claimed the lives of at least 14 people and injured more than 60. (davaotoday.com)
