DAVAO CITY, Philippines— Moro National Liberation Front founder Nur Misuari has vowed to help President Rodrigo Duterte in his campaign to pursue peace in Mindanao.
“You can count on us, Mr. President,” said Misuari in his speech at the Malacanang Palace, Thursday.
Misuari, who went into hiding for several years after the Zamboanga siege, flew Thursday afternoon to Manila per invitation of the President after a Pasig City regional trial court suspended his standing warrant of arrest, granting him a temporary liberty.
“I am here just to see the president not thinking of having this press conference,” he said, adding that his presence was a response to the invitation of the president.
The Moro leader said Duterte is the man he “respect and trust.”
“That he’s one single man who can provide solution in our homeland in Mindanao, that’s the place I was born, the place where I intend to die,” Misuari said.“Now I am so happy to be free again, owing to the initiative of our President.”
Meanwhile, Duterte asked the MNLF’s leadership for its full cooperation to the peace process in Mindanao.
“We would like to ask that we work together with our Moro brothers, and create a country that is just and good,” Duterte said.
“The revolution that you have led and finally understanding on a common ground with the government,” Duterte said of Misuari’s participation in the peace process.
Duterte said his government would initiate a dialogue with the Bangsamoro Authority. (davaotoday.com)
