‘Pro bono’ lawyers working impeachment rap vs. Robredo: DILG exec

Mar. 20, 2017

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — A score of volunteer lawyers are working on the supposed impeachment complaint against Vice- President Leni Robredo, an official of the Department of the Interior and Local Government said.

DILG Assistant Secretary Epimaco Densing, in a statement over the weekend, said a group of volunteer lawyers would file an impeachment against Robredo for “economic sabotage.”

He explained that Robredo’s “unverified statements in the international community intended to discredit the Duterte administration in its anti-illegal drugs.”

A video which was posted by DRCNet Foundation on YouTube last March 13, was slated to be played during a side session of the 60th United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs annual meeting in Vienna, Austria last March 16.

Robredo’s statement, according to Densing, has now “taken a toll (on) our economic relationship with other countries.” He added that the volunteer lawyers had met last week to discuss Robredo’s impeachment complaint. He, however, but denied that he was part of the group, whose members he declined to name.

“I’m not part of the legal team, but I will provide the inputs and evidence in the ‘betrayal of public trust’ part,” he said. (davaotoday.com)
