The proposed tuition increase in UP – at 200 percent — is staggering. It is comparable to the most expensive private schools in the country. It certainly is a cause for alarm for many students and parents.

DAVAO CITY – To many Filipino youths, studying at the University of the Philippines (UP) as a “iskolar ng bayan” carries immense advantages. What should be made available are means to extend loans or subsidies to cover the real costs of a quality education: and that involves many other reforms, such as allowing people to have jobs that enable them to give back what was given to them. 3. the problem with most of those who share this ‘popular’ sentiment is that they believe that most things in life should be free.. from things like government forms to education, they always want it all for free.. it seems that most of the people who yelp these issues are grossly ignorant of the rules of economics.. inspite of arguments about corruption draining the coffers of the government the truth is, ladies and gentlemen, there isnt enough money to spend with in the first place.. i would have sympathize if the courses they studied are essential for the short term development of our country.. but the fact that the filipino people is subsidizing the students just learn courses like fine arts, creative writing, poetry, philosophy, mass communications, as well as courses like nuclear physics, etc; leisure courses and defunct courses, is enough to make me care less about their cry.. and worse, most of these “scholars” go on to immigrate and work abroad or work for private institutions.. the govt’s investments ending up benefitting others than the govt.. absurd..
