A call-center company based in Davao says it plans to tap the call-center and business-outsourcing potentials of provinces in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. Germelina A. Lacorte reports.

DAVAO CITY — A Davao-based call center company wants to tap what it foresees as the huge labor potential in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) for call center and business outsourcing by putting up the first call-center school in Marawi.

Joji Ilagan-Bian, president of the JIB e-Academy, said her firm is partnering with the Marawi-based Hope Care Academy for the setting up of a 2.2-million peso call-center school as the first step toward exploring the business potential of the ARMM as a call center site.

Early this year, e-JIB Academy opened up Davao’s first 100-seat call center.

“We want to disprove the prevailing notion that ARMM workers have low level of skills and are not trainable,” Bian said. “Provided with proper access to ICT and the right training, I believe that workers in the region are source of huge economic potentials that remain untapped until now.”
