DAVAO CITY – Davao City Police Director Senior Superintendent Vicente Danao, Jr., aired his apology today after reportedly having berated three members of the local media who were following up on leads on the killing of a businessman.
“I offer them my sincerest apologies,” Danao told reporters after the second quarter joint meeting of the People’s Law Enforcement Board (Pleb), City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) and Davao City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (Cadac).
Danao said he felt “burned out” over pressures to quickly resolve the killing on June 12 of Cebu-based businessman Richard Lim King.
Danao said the reporters involved were his “friends.” However, the said three reporters were not around when Danao made the apology.
Police Senior Superintendent Camilo Cascolan of Police Regional Office Davao Region earlier said that the reporters should “file a complaint” before their office so they could “act on it.”
Meanwhile, Danao reported before the joint body that Davao City is still “very peaceful and stable despite of the latest atrocities.”
Compared to the second quarter of 2013, he said there is slight increase in the crime rate, at 11 per cent or 150 cases. Mostcrimes committed for the 2nd quarter of 2014 are mostly “theft and robbery.”
The crime volume versus 2013 increased by 4 percent, with 116 cases but this year there is a “higher crime solution efficiency” of 53 per cent.
Among the total number of cases, those committed by children in conflict with the law (CICL) is at 824, or 29 per cent. Most crimes are also theft and robbery. (davaotoday.com)
