Regional Development Council Chairperson Rodolfo P. Del Rosario urged for the transfer the Davao International Airport (DIA) to a 1,000-hectare area anywhere in Davao provinces.
Del Rosario told the media Monday that there is a need for an alternative site to the existing 217-hectare DIA as the airport will eventually become congested.
Del Rosario said nearby cities of Panabo and Samal in Davao del Norte, north of Davao City; and areas in Davao del Sur, south of Davao City can be possible areas for an alternate airport.
“If we cannot provide the facility for big bodied aircrafts, we will lose out in tourism and economic benefits,” Del Rosario said.
