ERRATUM. In the March 26 story titled “Run for Mother Earth” which appeared in Davao Today’s category of Today’s News To Go, the Earth Day Family Adventure Run was reported to be held this coming April 9.
The activity will be held on April 19 and not on April 9 which was previously reported. Our apologies.
DAVAO CITY – The nongovernment Interface Development Interventions (Idis) has linked up with Tuburan Institute, Inc., which created the Steiner/Waldorf-inspired green community school here, to organize the Earth Day Family Adventure Run this coming April 19.
Mary Ann Fuertes of Idis said that the concept of the Adventure fun run is to eradicate the plastics usually do by typical fun run.
“Usually during adventure run, fun run, there would be a lot of plastics, to bring water or food, But the policy here, no one uses plastic containers, only refillables. Bring your own water bottles, there are refilling stations,” she said.
Fuertes emphasized that plastic is non-biodegradable and fossil fuel base that contributes to global warming. “Even the land fill in Davao City will not last as expected lifespan due to so many plastics dumped.”
“So, this is a way to convince them that there is an activity to tell everybody that there are alternatives to plastics.”
The groups have invited all family members to join the said activity.
