DAVAO CITY – The Armed Forces has installed Lieutenant General Hernando Delfin Carmelo Iriberri as its new commanding general in a ceremony in Camp General Emillio Aguinaldo in Quezon City on Friday.
President Benigno S. Aquino III led the change of command held at the Tejeros Hall of the AFP Commissioned Officer’s Club.
Outgoing AFP Chief of Staff, General Gregorio Pio Capatang, Jr., who passed the armed forces leadership to Iriberri, said he leaves behind a “stronger, more credible and more stable armed forces.”
Meanwhile, human rights group Karapatan said Iriberri is “the same dog, only with a different tag.”
Cristina Palabay, secretary general of Karapatan said, Iriberri “led the whole Philippine Army in perpetrating human rights violations and international humanitarian law across the country, especially in the Mindanao regions.”
“During his stint as chief of the 503rd Infantry Battalion assigned in Abra, communities were bombed. In one of the bombings, two girls were almost hit in the villages of Umnap, Buanao, and Lat-ey in the municipality of Malibcong in 2013,” she said.(davaotoday.com)
