Davao City — Ten cities and municipalities in the Davao Region are joining the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) in campaign against illegal recruitment more aggressively in their respective localities.
POEA has seen the need to expand its network at the grassroots level by partnering with the local government units (LGUs) to carry out the campaign.
Figures have shown that the number of illegal-recruitment victims has increased every year, thus calls for more aggressive and sustained collaborative efforts are needed.
POEA has committed to provide information materials like posters and brochures and an updated list of license agencies for dissemination and distribution. For its part, LGUs will ensure that all barangays shall display these materials for ready reference of the community.
Personnel of the LGUs Public Employment Service Office (Peso) will also undergo trainings to conduct pre-employment orientation seminar in their respective localities.
Peso is also tasked to establish an anti-illegal recruitment complaint desk (Air help desk) and referral system. Strong linkages with other law enforcement agencies for coordination and referral of cases are also deemed necessary.
Also, to disseminate job hiring information down to the grassroots level, the POEA will provide LGUs with updates list of job vacancies under its Government Placement Branch (GPB).
LGUs are also urged to provide a space for POEA’s Balik Manggagawa processing during the peak season, which are on January, May, November, and December.
The POEA has already inked agreements on Illegal Recruitment-Free LGUs with 167 cities and municipalities. 5 of these are in Mindanao. (PIA)
