DAVAO CITY, Philippines—Local telecommunication companies and power utility lines here are urged to comply with the city’s underground cabling plan after the Davao City Council on Tuesday passed on third and final reading a new ordinance that will cover the next phase of implementation for this year’s underground cabling plan.
In 2017, the plan covers the Claro M. Recto St., Magsaysay Avenue and Quirino Streets.
The first phase will be at CM Recto St. with an estimated length of 1,100 meters. On its second phase, the construction will begin on 2018 at San Pedro St. with more or less 1,400 meters of cable.
City Councilor Diosdado Angelo Mahipus Sr, head of the Committee on Environment and Natural Resources announced that an information drive will be conducted since the ordinance contained a penal provision.
Mahipus said establishments like telecommunication companies that would disobey the ordinance will face charges, imprisonment, or even license revocation.
The Davao City Water District, PLDT-SMART Communication, Globe Telecom, BayanTel, DC Tech, Sky Cable Abratique and Associates, National Telecommunication Commission and other cable companies are expected to comply with the order.
Mahipus said violators will face a year of imprisonment and a P5,000 fine.
The P108-million underground cabling project of Davao Light and Power Company will be implemented the soonest. (davaotoday.com)
