DAVAO CITY, Philippines—Mass weddings and mobile registrations would mark the city’s observance of Civil Registry this month with the intent of bringing the services to both tribal and remote villages.
Shirley Arendain, registration officer III of civil registrar, said that their office will conduct mall tours, mobile registration in barangays and schools, as well as the “Kasalan sa mga Lumad.”
“There is no need for them [tribal residents] to go down here in the downtown area because they can register and will be catered through our mobile registration,” she said.
Arendain said that Alternative Learning System teachers will also be tapped to help them facilitate with the students’ registration.
“We tap the mobile teachers for the Alternative Learning System since they usually move from one barangay to another,” she said, noting that ALS students will be prioritized “since most of them are not registered yet.”
She added that as of January this year, there were 3,700 births registered in their office. But comparing the birth registrations between 2015 and 2016, the number has decreased to 44,020 last year, from 45,500 the previous year.
However, Arendain, pointed out that the mobile registrations have been continued in far-flung barangays and schools “to avoid wasting their time to travel to the civil registrar’s office.”
She said they coordinated with the Department of Education to tap public school teachers who have accessed students in far-flung areas for them to register.
Meanwhile, the City Registrar Office reminded the public to carefully fill-in the birth, death and marriage data to erroneous entry of information.
It said the number of application to correct clerical errors has increased every year. In 2015, there are 3,527 applicants for clerical errors and in 2016, it increased to 3,627. (davaotoday.com)
