Lakas, Nograles Camp Buying Votes in Davao?

A Davao City resident, from the city’s first district, recently emailed a set of pictures, one of them shown here, showing a movie ticket allegedly given away by the camp of House Majority Leader and Davao City congressman Prospero Nograles, as well as an insurance card worth 100,000 pesos supposedly issued by the Lakas party and signed by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and House Speaker Jose de Venecia. This is the same insurance card that is now the subject of a nationwide controversy, allegedly because distributing them is tantamount to vote-buying, which the Lakas camp denies.

MANILA — The militant Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) and the ANAKPAWIS party list group called on the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) and election watch dogs like Kontra-Daya and Bantay Pondo at Boto ng Bayan to investigate the campaigning of top Armed Forces o the Philippines (AFP) officials for the election of the Butcher retired Maj. Gen. Jovito Palparan.

Poll-related violence in Philippines fostered by culture of impunity — Beltran

MANILA — Anakpawis Representative and political detainee Crispin Beltran today said that the worsening election-related violence in the country is related to the seemingly endless spate of extra-judicial killings targeting political activists and human rights advocates.

Labor Day Protests in Philippines: Enough of grinding poverty and repression

MANILA — The umbrella group Bagong Alyansang Makabayan will join thousands of workers in the annual May 1 Labor Day rally tomorrow at the Liwasang Bonifacio, as it called on the police and military not to sabotage the peaceful protests.

Bayan forces will march from the Plaza Miranda in Quiapo going to the Liwasang Bonifacio at around 12 noon. They will converge with other groups from various assembly areas.
