This was how Mayor Rodrigo Duterte described the upcoming elections during a rally this week in Piapi, Boulevard, a neighborhood in the city’s first district.

Community Farewell, Wake Set for Sunday, April 29th

New York ? After weeks of campaigning for a second investigation and Consulate-sponsored repatriation and burial fees, the body of Filipina domestic worker Felisa “Fely” Garcia will be received by her two sons, Garry and Gliff, when they fly to New York City this week to take their mother’s body to be buried in the Philippines. A community farewell and public wake organized by the Philippine Forum and KABALIKAT Domestic Workers Support Network is set for Sunday, April 29th, 4-8pm at the Greenwich Village Funeral Home. A prayer service is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. Garcia’s children as well as community advocates will be in attendance. The event will be open to the public.

US / Guant?namo: Omar Khadr to face trial by military commission

Reacting to the charges brought against Guant?namo detainee Omar Khadr, Amnesty International said:

?The treatment of Omar Khadr over the past five years exemplifies the USA?s disregard for international law in the ?war on terror?. Unless the US authorities bring him to trial in a civilian court, taking full account of his age at the time of any alleged offences, he should be returned to Canada.?

US: Authorities fail to protect indigenous women from shocking rates of rape

(Washington, D.C.) ? Native American and Alaska Native women in the United States suffer disproportionately high levels of rape and sexual violence, yet the federal government has created substantial barriers to accessing justice, Amnesty International (AI) asserted in a 113-page report released today. Justice Department figures indicate that American Indian and Alaska Native women are 2.5 times more likely to be raped or sexually assaulted than women in the United States in general; more than one in three Native women will be raped in their lifetimes.
