Davao City-Consumer Alert hit President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s effort to freshen her “nonsensical” State of the Nation Address by bragging about bringing down the cost of text messaging.

“Majority of the Filipino people have no cellular phones. We need urgent economic relief such as the removal of Value-Added Tax that will enable us to access basic needs and services.” Consumer Alert spokesperson, Prof. Don Pagusara said.

“Besides, cut in texting cost is not out of government’s political will but is just one of Arroyo’s political gimmicks.”

Consumer Alert also lambastes Arroyo’s stubbornness to remove the Value-Added Tax saying Arroyo should be ashamed of letting the poor Filipino’s pay for her political protgs whom she must always satisfy.

“It is not the poor Filipino consumers who enjoy the “Katas ng VAT”. VAT serves Arroyo’s political survival,” Pagusara said.

“Arroyo’s refusal to remove Value-Added Tax will only exacerbate poverty and misery of the Filipino consumers,” he said. #
