In Tagum, PWDs go to the movies for free

DAVAO CITY — Persons with disabilities (PWD) in Tagum can go watch movies in mall every Thursday, free of charge.

A memorandum of agreement (MOA) signed by the Tagum city government and Gaisano Mall Cinemas on March 3 paved the way for PWDs to receive free movie access at any cinemas run by the said company.

The MOA signing was in in accordance with City Ordinance No. 709, series of 2015 “which provides that the scope and coverage of the granting of free movie access to Persons with Disability (PWD) shall be enforceable in all movie theaters in the territorial jurisdiction of the City of Tagum.”

Under the ordinance, a person with disability is defined as suffering from restriction or different abilities, as a result of a mental, physical or sensory impairment to perform an activity in a manner or within the range considered normal for a human being, and states that disability shall mean: “(1) a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more psychological, physiological or anatomical function of an individual or activities of such individual; (2) a record of such an impairment; or (3) being regarded as having such an impairment.”

The free pass shall not be transferable. Also, PWDs are requested to present their identification cards issued by the City Social Welfare Development Office should they want to avail of privilege pass. (davaotoday.com)
