Military blamed for Bayan Muna’s decline

May. 23, 2007

Neri Colmenares, a nominee of the partylist group Bayan Muna, said that the military’s campaign against his group was to blame for its decline in the elections. We were No. 1 for a short time, then we werent able to get into the top slot again. This is the first time that this has happened to us, he told the Inquirer. Earlier, the military admitted that it indeed was campaigning “vigorously” against Bayan Muna, which it perceives as a communist front. Many of the victims of extrajudicial killings in the Philippines are members of Bayan Muna.
