Jun. 25, 2007

MANILA — Charg d’Affaires, a.i. (CDA) Rosario P. Lemque of the Philippine Embassy in Doha, Qatar reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs that the embassy is coordinating with Qatari authorities on the investigation of the death of OFW Melissa Leseniana, who died on the morning of 22 June 2007.

Upon learning of the OFWs death on the same day, the Embassy sent Assistance-to-Nationals officers to the Hamad Hospital Morgue to see the body. The Embassy officials were not allowed to take photographs by morgue officials as the case is still under investigation.

At the police station in charge of the investigation, Embassy representatives were able to secure a copy of the late OFWs passport. Her personal belongings were also there. Her employer is now in police custody while the investigation is ongoing.

CDA Lemque assured the Department that the Embassy will continue to coordinate with Qatari authorities in the investigation into OFW Lesenianas death, provide assistance to her relatives, and report on any new developments.
