Philippines: SEN. LOREN LEGARDA’S STATEMENT ON THE MAGDALO WALKOUT

SEN. LOREN LEGARDA’S STATEMENT ON THE MAGDALO WALKOUT

The still developing events in Makati City are a cause for grave concern as, God forbids, the violence and upheaval that may result may prove very disruptive of our country, to say the least.

Recent history should have taught us now that the extra-constitutional way to effect change in government has not solved our problems and, in fact, has made them worse.

Thus, I appeal for calm and sobriety and for all of us to remain within the bounds of our democratic processes, even when expressing our differing points of view. We should never forget that we are all Filipinos.

Senator Antonio Trillanes, I believe, knows fully well his duties and responsibilities as a duly elected member of the Philippine Senate, and that he will be guided accordingly by what the people expects from us.

I also urge the government to exercise maximum tolerance in solving this crisis.

May the Lord guide us in this chapter of our nation’s history.
