Misfis caravan for peace reaches out to far flung villages. In May, the five-day Caravan for Peace and Development by the Mindanao Interfaith Services Foundation Inc. (Misfi) stirred the community of the Ata-Manobos in the far-flung sitio (hamlet) of Muling in barangay (village) Gupitan with free medical and dental services to residents and supplementary feeding to children. Ludenio Monzons Killing: A Chronicle of a Death Foretold?

Human rights advocates wanted authorities to look beyond the fact that Monzon was killed by ski-mask wearing men on motorcycle.

They (investigating authorities) should look into the fact that Monzon was once vilified by the military, said Erlin Balinton, a volunteer of human rights group Karapatan who documented the circumstances of Monzons death. He had a case filed with the Commission on Human Rights in October last year about how the military harassed him. They should look into his activities when he was still alive, if only to establish who could possibly have the motive to take his life.
Balinton said that Karapatan has yet to find out about what police actions were being done in Boston. Read on.

DAVAO CITY Groups opposed to Charter change urged the people of Davao to join the series of protests to express their outrage against the moves of Congress to change the Constitution.

No one wants to talk about charter change at this time of hunger and landlessness, said Representative Luzviminda Ilagan of the Gabriela Womens Partylist, one of the convenors of Peoples March.

Ilagan said the passage of House Resolution 1109 is intended only for the political survival of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Read on.
