New Mati mayor to push for two local codes

CITY OF MATI, Philippines ? The young daughter of then Mati mayor Luis G. Rabat and now the first city mayor of Mati Michelle Rabat bared three priority goals in her first year in office. During the inaugural rites held last July 3, Rabat stressed the need to push for two important codes. These are the Market Code of the City, and the Property Tax Code.

Philippines confident in solving revenue shortfalls

MANILA — The administration of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is “confident that it will succeed” in addressing the revenue-generation shortfall recorded by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) and the Bureau of Customs (BOC) for the first half of this year.

Terror law spooks neophyte Davao councilor

Newly elected Davao City councilor Karlo Bello, who was recently selected as the chairman of the City Council's Committee on Civil, Political and Human Rights, has expressed reservations about the Human Security Act, saying it might result in more human-rights abuses. "The same people who are already committing human-rights violations could be given authority to commit the same acts," he said.
