Protests await Philippines president in 3 Australian cities

MANILA — Protests over human rights abuses await Philippine president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in the Australian cities of Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne from May 29-31, according to the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan. The announcement came after protests hounded Arroyo in her New Zealand visit.

Philippines: ‘Caged’ activist fears arrest upon return from New Zealand

MANILA, Philippines — Labor center Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) today warned immigration
officials and Malacanang to refrain from any form of harassment or
arrest against Dennis Maga, Spokesperson of Free Ka Bel Movement
(FKBM) and Secretary General of ANGLO-KMU upon his arrival from New
Zealand on June 2.

Opposition bets, Kalahi win in Davao

Candidates for the Genuine Opposition dominated the senatorial elections in Davao City, with seven of them ending up in the top 12. Only three of the administration's Team Unity ticket -- Joker Arroyo, Edgardo Angara and Juan Miguel Zubiri -- won. In the partylist elections, it seems the machinery of Lakas stalwart Rep. Prospero Nograles worked in ensuring that the Kalahi partylist, of which his son Karlo is the second nominee, take the top spot.
