Angry Tricycle Drivers Press Demand for Fare-Hike ?Tariff?

DAVAO CITY — Representatives of 30 associations of Tricycle drivers in Davao City massed up in front of the City Hall on Tuesday to press for their demand of the tariff, a document they need to start charging an additional one-peso fare.

The group, called Integrated District Tricycle Federation of Davao City (IDTF), questioned the delay in the release of the tariff, which would allow them to collect a 6-peso fare, instead of five pesos, from passengers.

With Unstable Roof Over Their Heads, Dads Told to Vacate City Council Building

DAVAO CITY — A councilor has raised alarm about the safety of the City Council building, noting the danger it now poses because of the tremors that have been regularly occurring in the past days.

Councilo Nilo Abellera, in Tuesday?s session, suggested that they hold the sessions in safer locations, such as in the barangay (village) halls out of town, until the building is fixed and declared safe.

Church Groups to Hold Rally Vs GMA, Killings

DAVAO CITY — As President Gloria Arroyo met with Pope Benedict XVI in the Vatican today, several members of the religious sector in this city were busy preparing for a prayer rally tomorrow, Tuesday, to demand justice for the victims of the continuing killings, particularly of church workers.

The Promotion of Church People’s Response (PCPR), the ecumenical political organization, organized the activity, which will be held tomorrow at 2:00 to 5:00 in the afternoon at the Centennial Park, in front of the San Pedro Church.

Bayantel Expands Wireless Landline Project in Davao

DAVAO CITY — Bayantel has announced that it is expanding its newest phone service project in the city.

Bayantel executives presented the company?s wireless landline service called Span? to local officials led by Vice Mayor Luis Bonguyan at the City Hall last Friday.

Span, according to Bayantel, is basically a wireless phone about the same size as a regular mobile phone that is capable of making a call to any landline. The service ?aims to deliver the key benefits of landline and wireless services in a single package,? according to Bayantel. A user can make unlimited landline calls inside or outside his home.
