In ComVal, Terror Reigns as Army Secures Firms

In Compostela Valley?s villages, a de facto martial law exists. Civilians have been tortured, detained, harassed and killed as the military increases its presence in the resource-rich province in order to protect, according to residents and activists, plantation and mining companies. The deaths of Grecil Buya in March and the killing of two civilians by soldiers last Wednesday were the offshoots of yet another case of ?development aggression.?

Marco Polo Hotel Davao Gets Child Labor Free Award

DAVAO CITY — Marco Polo Hotel Davao was awarded ?Child Labor Free? title besting other top companies all over the country. The search was organized by the Employers? Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP).

During the Club 888 business and tourism forum last Wednesday, Marco Polo Hotel general manager Stanley Lao of Davao disclosed that they bested the award against other big multi-national companies around the Philippines like Johnsons & Johnsons and Globe Telecom.

Tawan-Tawan Residents Storm Floirendo Firm Over Drainage

DAVAO CITY — The patience of the residents of Barangay Tawan-Tawan in Baguio District has worn out pushing them to storm the main office of the Floirendo-owned Davao Agri-ventures Corp, (Davco) in Lanang to again demand from the company to do something about their problem on the absence of a comprehensive drainage system in the village that has resulted in flooding and impassable roads.
