MANILA — Militant environmental activists from Kalikasan Peoples Network for the Environment capped Earth Day 2007 today with a stern reminder that dangerous and large-scale commercial mining continues to damage the island of Rapu-Rapu in Albay and the surrounding waters of Sorsogon.
As we observe Earth Day, the country?s leaders should be reminded of the
damage that large-scale mining has done to the environment and livelihood
of residents in mining communities such as Rapu-rapu.
MANILA — Dead rivers full of debris and poisonous industrial waste, faulty and inadequate sewers, and lack of cheap potable water systems are making the extreme heats spells hitting Metro Manila even more unbearable for ordinary Filipinos, an environmental activist group said today.
