Wanted: anti-child labor barangay officials

Kaugmaon executive director Florie Butiong-Tacang said their campaign has only reached ten per cent success in minimizing child labor working on hazardous conditions. Their study showed cases where children worked in packing urea fertilizer in a refinery, and others cleaning bottles for a recycling plant. In both cases, children worked without protective gear and even worked overnight for days.

NPA declares “POW” status for captured village officials, militiamen

The New People's Army has given a “prisoner of war” status to “five Cafgu paramilitary forces” who were “captured” in the village center of Barangay Mansanitas, Loreto town, Agusan del Sur after they raided a detachment of the Philippine Army’s 26th Infantry Battalion, 11am of October 24.

Maribojoc town mayor Leoncio ‘Jun’ Evasco clarified his position in barring the Philippine National Red Cross from distributing relief packs in his quake-torn town in Bohol, saying he was all for centralization of the relief effort while at the same time shunning dole-outs.
