‘Have an independence of the mind,’ says film critic who introduced Brocka to Cannes

Pierre Rissient, who was credited for introducing Philippine cinema to the international scene by bringing National Artist Lino Brocka’s movie Insiang to Cannes in 1976, seemed to embody those words, as he wowed an audience of filmmakers, actors and movie enthusiasts in packed 150-seater cinema facility for classic and non-commercial movies, Cinematheque Davao last week.

2012 dengue cases in Sto. Tomas at 279

According to the 2012 Dengue Suspects Surveillance Report released by the Provincial Health Office, Sto. Tomas town ranked fourth among the eleven municipalities and cities in Davao del Norte. Out of the 279 documented cases, the report cited, 26 were classified with Dengue Fever while 12 were classified with dengue haemorrhagic fever.

Today’s View: A Birthday Holiday

My childhood years were filled with random dreams and not-so-intentional glories.  But they come as happenstances with childhood drives and urge to excel in everything -- from shatung to basketball, to high jump, to gardening to handicrafts making.  And to give fleshly meaning to parents’ and mentors’ exhortation in the cliché Burn your midnight candle!
