Philippines: Bayan gearing for post-election protests

MANILA — The umbrella group Bagong Alyansang Makabayan today announced that massive post-election protests will be very likely because of massive cheating during the elections.

In its statement for the May 14 elections posted on its website www.bayan.ph, the militant group called on voters to ?reject Arroyo and her puppet candidates? and to ?prepare for mass protest actions against the expected massive fraud and violence? that has marked the ongoing polls.

MANILA — Anakpawis Representative and political detainee said that it has to be said that the last SWS survey was highly suspicious and was possibly intended to be a means to condition the public’s mind regarding party-list elections and the beating the bloc of progressive party-lists could receive.

As Philippines election nears, more foreign observers flock to hotspots

MANILA — In addition to COMELEC-endorsed foreign observers, an independent team of international observers from ten countries is preparing to document the conduct of the local elections from the ground starting May 14, taking off from areas and provinces hit by fraud and violence during the 2004 Presidential polls.
