DAPECOL ARMORY RAID A BIG SLAP IN THE FACE OF THE AFP/PNP; EXPOSES WEAKNESSES AND FUTILITY OF OPLAN BANTAY LAYA II

Combined units of the Merardo Arce Command (MAC)-New People’s Army (NPA) launched a daring raid on the armory of the Davao Penal Colony (DAPECOL) in Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte early dawn yesterday. A tactical MAC-NPA platoon entered the DAPECOL compound at 1:30 AM and left at 1:50 AM. The 20-minute special operations seized the entire armory of DAPECOL which consisted of 105 long firearms, 3 short firearms, two handheld VHF radios and several rounds of ammunition. This is one of the biggest haul of the NPA since its founding in March 29, 1969.

After killing of 2 peasant leaders in Cagayan Valley: ?Another militant threatened by death squad?-KMP

The militant Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) and the ANAKPAWIS party list group lambasted the escalating attacks against its leaders and members in Cagayan Valley the past week, where two of its leaders were abducted and were found dead the other day. Early today another militant was threatened by members of the death squad for participating in the fact-finding mission conducted by KMP and Karapatan.

Philippines: Greenpeace ‘Shocked’ by Report on RP’s Climate Troubles

Greenpeace Statement on IPCC report released yesterday in Brussels:

Manila, 7 April 2007–Key findings of the new IPCC report say that:
-it is likely that climate change will induce mass extinction of species
within 60 to 70 years
-the number of people at risk from water scarcity is likely to rise from
tens of millions to billions
-reductions in food production capacity in the poorest parts of the
world, are projected
-small islands, subsaharan Africa, Asian mega deltas and the Arctic
regions are the most vulnerable, and
-huge numbers of people will be at risk due to sea level rise, storm
surges, and river flooding in the Asian mega deltas.
