Mindanao folk receive free cataract surgery from Philippines, US navies

MANILA — Operating room personnel from the Philippine and United States navies have performed cataract surgery at Basilan General Hospital during a free medical clinic offered by the two militaries to local residents. U.S. and Philippine medical specialists spent two days performing free cataract surgery on patients in the area who could not otherwise afford the procedure.

Business groups oppose broadband project for entire Philippines

Several of the country's largest business groups are opposed to the national broadband network, a project that aims to provide broadband Internet connection to the country's barangays, that they say "appears highly questionable." They ask: "Broadband for barangays of better education and health?"

French flagship FNS Var on courtesy visit to Philippines

MANILA — French flagship FNS Var, headed by Commander Paul Massart is paying a goodwill visit to the Philippines from June 11th to 15th, 2007. The ship carries the commander of the French forces in Indian Ocean Maritime Zone Rear Admiral Jacques Launay. Rear Admiral Launay is set to pay courtesy calls on the Philippine authorities such as the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Department of National Defense, the Philippine Navy, the City of Manila and Manila Police Superintendent.
