Arroyo urged: Admit there are ghost child prisoners in Philippines

MANILA — The Coalition to Stop Child Detention Through Restorative Justice
debunks claims by President Arroyo that children no longer suffer
imprisonment with adult crime suspects in filthy police jails in
violation of international human rights law (PGMA wants youth
offenders to continue studies, engage in livelihood, Office of the
President, released May 7, 2007). The President should officially
acknowledge the existence of these ghost children prisoners who lurk
in the shadows of police dungeons especially in Metro Manila and major
urban centers, without official acknowledgment, transparency and
accountability.

Philippines: Kin of Jonas Burgos Still Face Blank Wall 9 Days After Abduction

MANILA — Nine days since Jonas Joseph ?Jay-jay? Burgos, son of press freedom icon Jose ?Joe? Burgos disappeared; his family remains clueless of his whereabouts. His family and friends put up posters today at major points in the city in an effort to gather help from ordinary citizens and authorities as well.

The group put up posters at the vicinity of Ever Gotesco Commonwealth, Philcoa, Camp Aguinaldo and Camp Crame with basic details about Jonas and where citizens of good heart could give helpful details

Journalists Must Protect Our Freedoms

It is only by standing by your principles as mediamen that you can be called as such. Deviating from it makes you irrelevant.

DAVAO CITY — When I was asked to make a testimonial tonight, one question came to dominate my mind. That question is, after all the years of struggle and idealism about press freedom, what have I contributed towards this aim as a mediaman? This created a vacuum on my innerself which is suddenly filled with more doubt of my ideals if it is really realistic and achievable or just a plain utopia ? and maybe better leave it that way so that the next generation has something to continue. I know there are more worthy experiences of practicing media in the past, all I want is to share my story and thoughts about the my experiences and struggles as a mediaman.

Philippines troops again harassing peasants in Quezon

MANILA — The militant Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) and the ANAKPAWIS party list group lambasted the 4th Infantry Battalion for presenting as New People?s Army members, farmers and students that they abducted yesterday morning in Barangay Apad, Quezon.
