Next Congress should probe ‘alarming role’ of Philippines army, police in elections

MANILA — Partylist Bayan Muna today said the 14th Congress is morally bound to
hold a full-blown congressional investigation on the Armed Forces of
the Philippines’ and Philippine National Police’s alarming role in
partisan politics, electoral fraud and violence in the 2007 elections.

Street protests start over fraud-tainted Philippines elections

MANILA — Sensing a trend of fraud against the Opposition and militant partylist groups, the umbrella organization Bagong Alyansang Makabayan today started street protests as it joined anti-fraud group Kontra Daya in a picket in front of the Philippine International Convention Center where the national canvassing of votes is being done.

Groups fear more election-related violence

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — The partylist group Suara Bangsamoro said Sunday the latest bombing in Cotababto City could have been staged to draw the people’s attention away from the allegedly massive cheating and electoral fraud in Maguindanao and other areas in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
