Just four days after the polls, Jubien Abrena, 25, poll watcher of Bayan Muna in Magara, Roxas in the province of Palawan, was abducted by the Naval Intelligence Security Group-Western Command at about 3 p.m. of May 18 near the Puerto Princesa terminal. Three days before this incident, two other poll watchers, Jun Bagasbas and Ramilo Vallevare for the party-list group, Kabataan, were abducted by soldiers on May 15 and were found dead the next day.

Kabataan exposes military harassment in Bicol, Philippines

MANILA — Kabataan Party-list strongly condemned the numerous cases of
poll-related terror and violence that is marking the 2007 elections.

The youth party-list made the statement following the brutal murders
of Jun Bagasbas, 20 years old, and Ronilo Vallevare, 16 years old,
both Kabataan organizers and poll watchers in Camarines Norte.

UPDATED: 2 Kabataan poll watchers abducted, murdered

Two poll watchers for the Kabataan Party-list were abducted and killed in Capalonga, Camarines Norte.

Based on the party?s press release, Jun Bagasbas, 20, of Ulipanan Jose Panganiban, and Ronilo Vallevare, 16, of Brgy. Old Camp Capalonga, both Kabataan organizers and poll watchers, were allegedly abducted by suspected soldiers on May 15.

UN mandate a recognition of Philippines’s ’sincere efforts’ to address human rights — Arroyo

MANILA — The Philippines was elected today to a three-year term at the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC), in what President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo hailed as a recognition by the international community of the government?s sincere efforts to address the issue of human rights, promoting conflict resolution through interfaith dialogue and strong advocacy for the rights of migrant workers.
