And as the workers, farmworkers and peasants marched and braved the heat, with hundreds of red flags waving, they showed Aquino they are still a force to reckon with, undeterred despite the oppression they are experiencing from massive corporations who stole their lands and displaced them from their homes and livelihood.

Today’s View: The Princess of her people

(First of a three-part column) By AMIRA ALI LIDASAN Davao Today We can see the worry in the face of Princess Jacel as she updates her father, her emotional appeal to end the attack against her father’s men, and her anger at Pres. Aquino. In the press conference, she wore the Muslim woman’s veil or tirong in her Tausug language, emotional in her challenge against Aquino.  This is the image of a Muslim woman challenging the state because she is a victim of government neglect, of human rights violation such as enforced evacuation in a conflict area, or whose husband or son was falsely identified as an Abu Sayyaf member and illegally arrested in exchange of rewards against terrorists.

Today’s View: Bias Begets Arrogance Begets Irrationality

By DON PAGUSARA Davao Today And when the real facts as they happened did not conform with the exactitude of his plans, his fascistic nature as a patronizing authority figure surfaced. He was afraid the media was bound to gather the real facts from the ground. And this gave vent to his arrogant posturing and unreasonable utterances.
