Accord Signed to Pursue Cable Pirates in Philippines

Makati City ? The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IP Philippines) and the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) signed the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) of last year?s memorandum of agreement. The IRR will expedite the resolution of cases filed with the NTC against cable operators involving violations of intellectual property rights, and NTC rules and regulations.

Conflicts, Human-Rights Abuses Displace 100,000, Mostly in Mindanao

The Geneva-based Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) has released a report that says an estimated 100,000 people were displaced from their homes in the Philippines due to armed conflicts and human-rights violations. The main displacement movements occurred in Mindanao, the report said.
