DOLE XI says more job vacancies available for Davao region before 2015 ends

Dec. 05, 2015

DAVAO CITY – With 21,091 job vacancies as of Friday, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region XI will conduct their last major job fair for this year on December 8 at Abreeza Ayala Malls in celebration of its 82nd anniversary.

DOLE XI Regional Director Jofrey Suyao in a press conference Friday said that this is taking advantage of the influx of October 2015 graduates.

This annual job fair will be participated by 73 employers; 52 from local employers with 4,890 job vacancies and 21 overseas employers with 16,201 vacancies waiting, said Suyao.

He said there is an ongoing pre-registration and mini-job fair at the second floor, expansion building of the said mall which started last December 3 until 7 to give way to the applicants who are not available on December 8.

Other government agencies like Social Security System (SSS), PhilHealth, and agencies under DOLE also supported this event to give assistance on other documentation needs of the applicants.

Applicants need to prepare their Transcript of Records (TOR), training certifications, resume, and other documents necessary for application which can be assisted by other agencies on the one-stop-shop.

Suyao said there are four steps on the job fair; registration, selection of available jobs, validation and the interview.

He also encouraged the applicants to read tips on the internet on how to face an interview with prospective employers to build strength.

“Let’s relate that on our qualifications and we build on it and we capital on it. We convince our prospect employers that we are the best person for the job,” Suyao said.
Suyao said they are expecting 3,000-5,000 job seekers to come on the job fair but roughly only 2,000 will be catered on the interview area.

Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) or call center is still on number one spot in terms of job vacancies and six establishments are coming from BPOs, Suyao added.

Suyao said that in a survey conducted by Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) last July, Davao region has around 3 million labor force which comprises of 15 years and older. Around 2 million were employed which covers 94.4% and 133,000 unemployed with 5.6%. A recent survey on this was conducted last October and results were expected to come out any time this month.
